The chatbot era is mostly over. For two years, people used AI like a search engine. A user asks a question, and the bot gives an answer. It helps out, but the actual work stays with the human. The user still has to do the manual clicking and the data entry.
Agentic AI is different. This is a move from AI that talks to AI that does things. Instead of just writing a plan, these new agents actually finish the work.
A normal AI model is just a brain. It is smart and knows facts, but it is stuck. It cannot move or use other tools by itself. An AI agent is the same brain but with hands. It can go onto the internet and open software to finish a list of jobs without a person watching it.
Gartner thinks this is a huge tech trend for 2025. They say that by 2028, about 40 percent of business software will have these agents built inside. Companies want tools that can actually operate on their own.
Most work happens in a web browser. Emails, spreadsheets, and CRMs are all online. That is where work gets done.
In the past, web bots were not very smart. A person had to tell the computer exactly where to click. If a website changed at all, the bot would break. Agentic AI is better because it understands what it sees. It looks at the screen like a person. It finds a Login button even if it changes color or moves to a new spot.
McKinsey found that about 70 percent of work hours could be handled by AI. The bulk of that time is spent on interface tasks like moving information between different websites or software.
These agents are taking over the boring parts of many jobs.
In finance, agents log into a bank to grab statements and put them in accounting software. They do not just remind a person about a bill; they process it.
Sales agents look through LinkedIn to find candidates and check their emails. They update a list without any manual typing.
Support tools can fix problems instead of just talking about them. An agent can look up an order and issue a refund directly in the system.
Social media managers use this to keep accounts healthy. A common task is cleaning up X followers that are just bots or fake accounts. The agent finds the bad profiles and handles the removal automatically.
The move from talking to doing is a big change. It turns AI from a librarian into a digital employee.
As these agents become common, the human role changes. People will not be doing the repetitive clicking anymore. The job will be to set the goals and supervise the agents while they do the work.
The goal for next year is not to find a smart chatbot. It is to find the most capable action bots to handle the boring stuff so humans can focus on strategy.
